Helping to sustain an amazing culture and community

Sahara Roots Foundation

To help preserve the Moroccan Sahara and help provide a better environment for the people living there.
The Sahara-Roots Foundation was founded in 2008 to help create awareness amongst the population in the area of the M’hamid village in the South of Morocco, about the importance of maintaining their beautiful environment. The activities are focused on planting trees against desertification, assisting in clean-up campaigns and in stimulating the local school children by distributing and reading Wanda Hebly’s own-designed booklet “Me and my Sahara” in the French/Arabic language, in co-operation with local associations.

Joudour Sahara Music School

Located in the Sahara Desert, in the small oasis town of M’Hamid El Ghizlane, this new music program will focus on preserving valuable ancestral cultural knowledge, and will provide music education to the youth in this remote area of Morocco. The Joudour Sahara Music School is an ambitious project, that includes the construction of facilities embedded in this beautiful natural environment. As we launch the fundraising campaign for the construction of these facilities, we began classes in March 2017 with students and local and international musicians performing at the Festival Taragalte out in the sand dunes of the Sahara, music's most natural environment here in M'Hamid.

Playing for Change

In 2007, the Playing for Change Foundation was created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. Our mission is to create positive change through music and arts education. As one of our students in Nepal stated, “Music is an indispensable part of life -‐ you cannot live without music.” We couldn’t agree more. At the Playing For Change Foundation, we live our lives by this principle and apply it to everything we do.
