Circuit to M’Hamid

Description

Day 1: Ouarzazate – M’Hamid el Ghizlane

Depart by 4×4 in the morning from Ouarzazate to M’Hamid el Ghizlane via the mountain pass of Tizi-n-Tinfifte, the village of Agdz, then through the kasbah of Tamnougalt, and the immense date palm oasis of the Draa Valley. Have lunch in Zagora and enjoy a visit to Tamegroute to visit the Koranic library, the manufacturing location of the unique green pottery of Tamegroute and the underground streets of the village. Continue to M’Hamid, the last village of the Draa Valley. Stop in Kasbah Sidi Khalil and take a camel ride to the first dunes of the Sahara. Arrive at the desert camp in time for sunset over the high dunes. Traditional nomad dinner and night under the stars or in nomad tents.

Day 2: M’Hamid el Ghizlane – High Dunes

After watching sunrise over the dunes and a traditional nomad breakfast, depart by camel for stretches of sand dunes south of M’Hamid via el Reg Arada. Enjoy a picnic lunch during the trek. Arrive at the mobile camp in time for sunset on the dunes, followed by a traditional nomad dinner and a night under the stars or in nomad tents.

Day 3: High Dunes – M’Hamid el Ghizlane

After watching sunrise over the dunes and a traditional nomad breakfast, trek by camel to the mobile camp. Arrive at the mobile camp in time for sunset on the dunes, followed by a traditional nomad dinner and a night under the stars or in nomad tents.

Day 4: M’Hamid – Ait Ben Haddou

After watching sunrise over the dunes and a traditional nomad breakfast, visit the ancient village of M’Hamid.  Trek by foot through the last palm grove of the Draa Valley and stop for lunch with locals through our homestay program in M’Hamid. Continue to Ait Ben Haddou and visit the stunning Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for a photo. Continue to your guesthouse in Ait Ben Haddou for a traditional dinner and the night.

Day 5: Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate

After a traditional breakfast, depart for Ouarzazate. Visit the Atlas Film Studios and Kasbah Taourirt, the former el Glaoui palace. Stop for lunch and spend the afternoon in Fint Valley and the Tiguirt oasis, 15 km outside of Ouarzazate. Begin your 2-hour hike by climbing the mountains surrounding Fint Valley.  Walk through the Fint Valley to the Fint oasis and return to Ouarzazate.
